Thoughts on the Jurassic Park series, mostly Jurassic World.
Man, it would be cool if Dinosaurs were real, huh? I keep hoping they finally find Nessie or Mokele Mbembe. I mean, we have the Komodo Dragon and though they are almost as deadly as Raptors, (Komodo Dragons eat several humans a year)... it's not the same. You might as well call a lizard a dinosaur.
I read in a book by Michio Kaku that scientists are actually trying to replicate prehistoric creatures via DNA extract. Apparently, quantum computing and 3-D printing will be part of the process if we ever achieve it. We probably will in like 20-30 years. But "Jurassic Park" is a fascinating concept. Dinosaurs brought in from the prehistoric age to the modern one. I do think Aristocrats would pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to visit a real life park with such an attraction.
The first Jurassic Park movie is historic and it is as good now as it was then. It is a masterpiece and marvel of special effects few thought possible back in 1993. "The Lost World" however was more of a Popcorn flick. It is like 'Jurassic Park Dominion' to a much lesser scale. A T Rex is let loose in the city, save us Jeff Goldblum! It is good, but not the masterpiece the 1st one was.
"Jurassic Park III" however was kind of a piece of crap. It made me want to see that Roger Corman 'Carnosaur' movie, which I never saw and supposedly sucks but it knows that it sucks. "Jurassic Park III" was such a cash grab that although in all it truly was not a bad movie, it did the legacy of the Jurassic Park movies a disservice and never should have existed. It is the worse in the entire series.
I was late to the Jurassic World series. I did not see a single one in theatres. But I managed to catch all of them on Peacock in the last 3 months. They are all good, not great. They must be fantastic to watch on IMAX however as the special effects are fantastic and the action is somewhat enthralling. It probably plays better on a bigger screen with great speakers.
I have no preference in the Jurassic World series. Even the latest one with Scarlett Johansson. They are all pretty much equal in quality. I feel the first one is the most thoroughly planned out while the rest were just rehashes and the last two felt a little rushed. But they are still just as good. Yea "Dominion" was just an excuse to get on screen favorites together. And "Rebirth" is a well made cash grab with a very cheap storyline to tug at heartstrings. Lost family in an island... simple... go make a billion dollars worldwide.
I would like to see the Dinosaurs wreck New York again. That would be pretty cool. But I feel like they don't want to shell out too much money in case the movie isn't profitable so these dinosaurs that are supposed to be running amok all over the world seem to always get confined to small designated areas even though they are all over the earth since the second Jurassic World.
They should bring back other ancient creatures. Like the legendary Kraken. They brought back the Titanoshark. They might as well introduce Krakens into the franchise. Giant Spiders and scorpions would be cool too, although realistically, they would have to kill at least one of the heroes within the first 15 seconds of meeting them. Have a bunch of random hunters there too so only the main protagonists we like survive the onslaught of giant insects. Just imagine some Sam O Neill typed stabbed by a mosquito who sucks out all his blood till his skin dries up and you can see the bones. But that's probably kinda harsh for the PG 13 franchise.
The Kraken would survive a PG 13 Rating. The Giant Mosquitoes would definitely be a stretch for PG 13, unless it's heavily edited and they would probably have to release a special unrated version on video. If only there was an unrated 'The Black Cauldron'. I will try to finally see that.
